We have all suffered from common cold and cough atleast once in our lives. There are different reasons that contribute to it, changing weather, poor lifestyle, dietary habits, excess consumption of processed foods, certain dairy products among others.
All such habits lead to the accumulation of toxins in the body. These toxins, if not flushed out timely can be harmful for our health. When you have cold, increase the intake of fruits and vegetables which are rich in vitamin C. Vitamin C is a great natural remedy to get rid of cold. Some fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C are tomatoes, spinach, amla, citrus fruits, and broccoli.
Practice Jala Neti
Jala neti is a common practice which helps in cleansing nasal passages. However, make sure you practice it under the guidance of a nature cure practitioner.
Take Facial Steam
To get rid of cold quickly, take facial steam two times a day. Add carom seeds or ajwain in steam water and inhale. It helps in unclogging sinuses quickly. You can also add a few drops of eucalyptus oil in steam water.
Homemade Herbal Tea
Drink homemade herbal tea twice a day. You can make it using some ginger, peppercorns, tulsi leaves and haldi. In some water, add all the ingredients - grated ginger, 2-3 peppercorns, a few Tulsi leaves and grated raw haldi or turmeric. Boil for a few minutes and strain.
Homemade Concoction For Congestion
To get rid of the congestion, you can prepare a concoction using 1 tsp lemon juice, 1 tsp ginger juice, and a pinch of haldi. Consume it 3-4 times a day.
Practice Pranayama
Pranayama is a common yoga practice of focusing on the breath. It can help get rid of cold.
Food Preferences
Talking about the food and drinks one should consume while having cold, the expert shared that one should eat only when hungry. Some good food and drink options are:
Water
Fruit juice (diluted with water in 1:1 ratio)
Coconut water
Juicy fruits
Pulpy fruits
Steamed vegetables
The expert further shared that one must avoid dairy products, tea, coffee, processed foods, grains and non vegetarian foods when having cold.
Though these natural remedies are mostly effective and have no side effects, it is best you consult your doctor before following any of these if you are under any medication or treatment.
